The strategic advancement of Rugby Football Union (“Rugby”) within the schools and school districts of Texas as a viable sport for male AND female students through the coordination of interscholastic competition, integration of resources, education of coaches and players, and through direct and partnered advocacy.
The realization of Rugby Football Union (“Rugby”) as a varsity sport for boys and girls within secondary educational institutions (high schools) and adopted as such within the state's main athletic associations governing public and private high school competitions: University Interscholastic League (UIL) and Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS), respectively.
TIRA is guided by a set of core values integral to the culture of Rugby that support and reinforce the educational role sports play in our schools and community.
Access – To the extent possible, barriers shall be minimized or removed to ensure all individuals who have an interest in participating in Rugby shall have the opportunity to do so.
Diversity – Individuals regardless of gender/sexual-orientation, race/ethnicity, religion, nationality, or socio-economic status are welcome in the sport of Rugby and the Association.
Equity – The provision of scheduling, personnel, marketing and other resources shall be provided in a manner that is free of bias or favoritism.
Fairness – Leaders and participants shall employ decision-making processes that negate biases in social and disciplinary judgements.
Integrity – Strive to behave in a manner that positively reflects on oneself, the team, the school, the Association, and the sport of Rugby.
Respect – All individuals bring value to the sport of Rugby. All participants and spectators shall conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values of the contemporary sport of Rugby and the Association.
